Are You Troubled By Tummy Fat?

By: Pam Storer

Oftentimes people are quick to judge someone they see that has a problem with tummy fat. It's easy to say they shouldn't overeat and that they need to exercise. The problem is, that isn't always the case. Some people have problems with fat around their middle section for different reasons. Here are some of the things that cause fat.

Menopause can be the cause for many older women. Once menopause occurs, the body begins to deposit fat in different areas of the body. For many women, it gets deposited in the tummy area.

As you begin to get older, your metabolism slows down. This causes your body to stop burning calories as fast as it used to, resulting in extra fat being stored around your middle section.

Stress can cause you to gain weight all over your body. It causes the release of cortisol, a hormone that makes the liver produce extra, unnecessary sugar. You are hungry all of the time so you eat more. As the body makes fat, it deposits it in the stomach area.

Did you know that you could have one of two different body types? They are called apple and pear bodies. If your body stores fat around the middle of your body, you have an apple body. If it deposits the fat in the lower part of the body, you have a pear body. Genetics play a big part in these body styles, and usually, other people in your family have the same body style.

Sometimes a person will look like they are fat around the midsection, but it is really a problem with improper digestion. This causes gas and bloating, and it is bloating instead of fat that makes them look big around the middle.

Many people eat their evening meal and then snack or eat other food before going to bed. If you want to avoid more stomach fat, don't eat within the three hours before going to bed. That gives your supper a chance to digest before your body slows down for the night.

The first thing you need to do if you have excess tummy fat is determine the cause. Adjust your lifestyle accordingly to help your body burn fat and stop storing it in your tummy area.
