Not everyone gets anxious about the same thing, a problem at work for example is something that many people could just brush off but for others it will sit in their mind and cause so much anxiety that they may never be able to go back to work again. Post traumatic stress disorder is probably the best known anxiety disorder, it is no longer a phenomenon that affects soldiers alone. If you have ever been involved in a car crash, a physical assault, or some sort of abuse then you would most likely be suffering from post traumatic stress. Obsessive compulsive disorder are compulsive behaviors that you can not control and have trouble stopping. This may be something like constant washing of your hands, checking your windows and doors are locked constantly or repeatedly flushing the toilet. Phobias and anxiety often come hand in hand, you could be suffering from either a social phobia or a specific phobia. Social phobia is harder to deal with, when you have specific phobia you are phobic of one thing , spiders for example, so you avoid them. Social phobia can cause you to avoid every social situation. Specific phobia is where you experience a fear of things that pose no danger to you. This will cause a person to avoid certain objects and situations. This can limit peoples lives in many ways. Another type of anxiety disorder is generalized anxiety disorder. This is when you have constant thoughts of worry and tension about you daily routines, life events and other activities. Even though there is no reason to expect it, you almost will always think the worst. The physical symptoms are fatigue, tension, nausea, headache, and trembling. There are certain ways that you can treat anxiety disorders. Treatments for anxiety disorders are medications, and psychotherapy. These things may be combined together to help people with their anxiety. As anxiety disorder become better understood and more widely reported the medical industry has started to come up with newer and hopefully more effective medications for people who suffer from both specific and social anxiety. While there are some very effective ways of treating anxiety with psychotherapy, including behavioral therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy, there are also a wide variety of new medications coming onto the market. Talk to your Dr about therapy first as it may have less side effects than any medications. In addition to the behavioral therapy techniques, cognitive behavioral therapy will teach patients how to understand and change their thinking so that they can act differently to the situations that cause anxiety to them.
