When a bracket falls off a tooth or a wire snaps it is urgent to visit your orthodontist so he can put everything back in place and avoid painful wounds in your mouth.
If this happens while traveling or working in another country where people speak another language it can become a big problem, even more if you don't speak the language. So what is the solution for this type of situation?
If you are staying at a hotel go to the front desk and try to explain the problem. Here are a list of words you might want to know in Spanish to try to communicate your problem. Orthodontist is called "ortodoncista" braces are called "frenos" , tooth is "diente", wire is "alambre" and bracket is usually also called bracket or "bracket de diente".
If you are working or traveling for a longer period of time you might not be at a hotel, so in those cases the best thing to do is ask a friend if he knows an ortodoncista he can recommend or you can check the yellow pages for either "ortodoncia" or "ortodoncista".
If you want to search for help online you should search in Spanish and use the name of the country you are in to get better results to your search. For example you could search for "ortodoncista en El Salvador" or "Clinica de Ortodoncia El Salvador" this would give you results such as "Clinica de Ortodoncia Smile Center" a well know clinic in El Salvador run by Dr Marielos who is a member of the American Association of Orthodontists
Even if an orthodontic treatment can take many months, teeth generally can move back to their original position in a matter of days. Because of this it is very important that if a bracket falls or wire snaps, you get it fixed by an "ortodoncista" right away.
Doctor Marielos is fully bilingual and has an orthodontic clinic in El Salvador. She is a member of the AAO and the WFO She can help with your needs of "Ortodoncia en el Salvador"
