Studying The Function Of Wooden Toys In Baby Growth

By: Gary Clay

When selecting baby toys and children's toys the purchaser are usually most concerned about the 'play value' of the toy, or how long the child will continue to be amused by it. No one wants to see the traditional cliché of shelling out serious cash on a toy and find the youngster playing with the box it came in! Another important factor and one that the majority mums and dad's don't consider is the effects a toy can have on a child's development and growth.

Infants develop in a number of ways these are; cognitive (mental ability), motor (strength and co-ordination), and communally (via working with other children and adults). A well made child's toy can help to stimulate maturation as well as be a lot of fun to use. So when you visit the local toy shed are there any easy nuggets of advice we should be thinking about when choosing that critical purchase?

It might be considered controversial, however you can avoid the e-learning toys and the computer run learning toys that are flooding the toy sheds. Scientific studies reveal that these toys restrict children's mental decision making as they seek single pre-decided goals and do nothing to drive a child's mental development.
Toys that narrow a youngster's imagination and ability to think creatively do nothing to assist development as they do not form new mental strategies or patterns of thinking. As any parent knows a youngster's mind has no limits and it is this ability to think differently from adults that enable a child to grow mentally at such an accelerated rate. If the game only has a single path and one destination, a youngster will never learn to decide between options to work out a puzzle.

In the area of cognitive growth, university studies suggest traditional toys are the most useful mostly because kids can use them in a variety of. This lets the playhouse represent any building from a doctor's surgery to a café to the lunar space station preparing for its next lunar adventure Child physiologist Jean Piaget coined the notion of 'schemas', which describes new ways of thinking. Children can create these schemas via this type of imaginative thinking.

Standard and well known infant toys are famous for their benefits in developing a baby's motor abilities. A child's physical development can be split into two major categories; gross motor skills (the development of the big muscles so we can walk, jump and carry) and the fine motor skills (these facilitate children to handle objects using their digits and hands in a dexterous and co-ordinated manner). Conventional, traditional toys such as shape sorters and xylophones are super fun for young toddlers to trigger hand-eye co-ordination, while bikes, trikes and scooters keep older kids on the go as they develop their larger muscles, balance and co-ordination.

Finally it seems classic toys may also have the answer when considering social development too. Empathy and the skill to play well with others are promoted by toys that encourage communication and team work. Role play toys are great for creating a safe place for kids trying to work with one another to practice real-life situations in pretend scenarios. They enable a kid to act out scenarios and better comprehend the environment around them whilst feeling safe at the same time.

Before you set off to the store for that fantastic Xmas or Birthday gift for your child, below are a few things we should bear in mind.

1. Is the concept of this toy open enough for a youngster to be able to play with it in a number of different ways?
2. Can a kid alter the objective of the toy with his or her own thoughts and intelligence?
3. Will the toy offer amusement, fun and hold up to plenty of tough play?
4. Can the toy offer different levels of complexity so it can provide years of use?
5. Confirm whether the toy is suitable for play with other youngsters, permitting interaction.
6. Will this toy still be useful to a child in a years time or simply an advertising fad?

Remember that despite all the expensive marketing, glossy adverts and eye catching packaging the latest robot dinosaur won't offer a child anywhere near the same level of developmental opportunities as the simple pull along wooden dog. Whatsmore long after Robo-Dino's batteries have gone dead, good old spotty dog will still be going for 'walkies'.
