The Cabbage Soup Plan And How It Works

By: Alan B. Densky, CH

Losing weight can be a challenging process; naturally, most overweight people are always on the lookout for new ways to take weight off. The Cabbage Soup weight loss plan is known to many dieters as a popular fad diet that offers an easy way to shed excess pounds, but does it actually work? The diet plan is explained here, along with the keys to success for taking weight off permanently.

The Cabbage Soup diet requires, as the name suggests, consuming cabbage soup for seven consecutive days. During this seven day period, dieters only eat reduced cabbage soup and a few other foods to lose weight. The plan is not a lifestyle changing plan like some other popular diet plans, and requires no long-term lifestyle changes beyond the seven days of the diet.

There are several versions of the cabbage soup recipe. Most contain seasonings, cabbage and other vegetables, such as onions, bell peppers, mushrooms, celery, and tomatoes. Some dieters like to add spicy seasonings to enhance the soup. Other people concerned with sodium intake try to prepare a reduced-sodium recipe. Many current versions of the diet include healthy sources of protein, such as protein shakes and tofu to make the diet plan more balanced.

Besides cabbage soup, there are very specific rules for what other foods are permitted on each day of the plan. As a general guideline, dieters can eat cabbage soup every day, along with fruit on the first day, vegetables on day two, vegetables and fruit on day three, bananas and skim milk on day four, tomatoes and beef on the fifth day, beef and vegetables on day six, and brown rice, vegetables, and fruit juice on the seventh, final day. Dieters then go back to their regular eating habits, hopefully now weighing a few pounds less.

Does the Cabbage Soup diet actually work for weight loss? Although no official research study has examined the diet conclusively, dieters who have used the weight loss plan report varying success. For several people, the program resulted in weight loss (up to ten pounds), but only for a limited time, as the pounds gradually came back as the individual resumed normal eating habits. Some people experienced fatigue, lack of focus, and light-headedness while following the diet. Other people felt no effects at all, seeing no weight loss, but no illness either.

The Cabbage Soup diet plan is just one of many fad diets that people can try. However, because this plan may not produce results, for many overweight people it just adds to the difficulty of not being able to lose weight. A better approach to dieting does not use gimmicks or short-term diet programs. It takes dedicated work and lifelong commitments to maintain healthy weight loss. For most dieters, this means eating healthy and getting plenty of exercise.

Unfortunately, many people fight to keep up the healthy habits needed to take weight off. Several frequent dieters cannot seem to lose weight because of their strong cravings, out-of-control appetites or eating habits, or a lack of motivation. Hypnotherapy is useful for working through these issues and offering the motivation necessary for natural weight loss.

Among the many reasons hypnotherapy is perfect as a weight loss tool is because hypnotherapy may be used for appetite regulation. Many us have out-of-control appetites because of problems with "emotional eating" which makes them have an unconscious impulse to overeat even when they do not feel hungry. Hypnotic therapy helps re-train the unconscious mind to stop the urge to eat, resulting in natural appetite control without pills or drugs.

Another way hypnotherapy works to help you get the weight off is by removing the stressful thoughts that make you want to overeat and sap your motivation to stay on an exercise plan. When you begin to think negatively, hypnosis taps into your unconscious to naturally think positive, which causes you to feel relaxed.

Your motivation to exercise can be dramatically increased through hypnosis and NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming). First, you recognize what the most significant aspects of your life are. Then you use techniques in NLP to guide you into believing that the things that are most important to you will become enhanced when you exercise, or placed at risk if you do not. This way, it becomes easy to stay motivated to get physically fit and stay physically fit.

Everyone has the ability to learn hypnosis and NLP techniques from a good hypnotherapy weight loss CD program. The techniques in hypnosis CDs utilize the power of unconscious thoughts to help dieters extinguish their cravings. By eliminating cravings and urges, the appetite is reduced or eliminated entirely. Hypnotherapy can also help get you motivated to exercise to lose weight.

By reprogramming your unconscious thoughts, hypnotherapy makes losing weight a natural process. It is a great tool to keep you inspired and naturally geared towards healthy habits. So before taking on a new fad diet, think about a healthier approach to losing weight through physical activity, healthy eating, keeping stress-free, and using hypnosis to reach your goals.
