The Zone Diet And How It Works

By: Alan B. Densky, CH

The Zone diet is a diet program that monitors food intake and physical activity to deliver results. It is a lifestyle-changing program to help people lose pounds and become physically fit. The key aspect of this diet plan is the food plan developed by the biochemist named Barry Sears.

The scientific theory of the diet focuses on the effect of carbohydrates on the body's insulin levels. Eating too many carbohydrates causes the body's blood sugar levels to rise sharply, which prompts the body to secrete insulin, a hormone that reduces blood sugar levels by storing the sugar as fat. It is thought that by eating the right foods, blood sugar levels can be regulated to keep insulin levels in "the zone," a range where the body is thought to burn fat more efficiently and stop holding onto excessive fat.

The program balances carbohydrate and protein consumption in a three to four ratio, meaning 30% of your calories will come from protein and 40% from carbohydrates (another 30% typically comes from fat). It is crucial to monitor calories on the Zone diet, with most meals being no more than five hundred calories each and snacks being no more than one hundred calories each.

Under the diet plan, you eat five times a day (three meals and two snacks), never going more than five hours without consuming food. If you get eight hours of sleep each night, this means taking breakfast within one hour of getting up, taking lunch within five hours after breakfast, a snack within five hours after your lunch, dinner within two or three hours of your snack, and a late night snack right before bed.

The majority of foods eaten on the Zone plan include low fat cuts of meat, like chicken or fish and other sources of protein, lots of vegetables and fruits, and a limited amount of carbohydrates. Rice, sugar, potatoes, cereals, and breads are the types of carbohydrate rich foods that dieters are to avoid eating, but can eat occasionally. Dieters must also try not to eat pre-packaged foods and high sodium foods.

Exercise is another important component of the Zone diet. The plan recommends moderate intensity physical activity for thirty minutes a day, six days per week. Exercise is supposed to increase the effectiveness of the Zone diet. Other enhancements to the diet include taking vitamins and nutritional supplements.

The Zone plan works effectively for many people, but it requires a lot of dedication. The reason why this diet and most other plans don't work is because many dieters quit before they are able to see results. Many people fight to stay on any type of diet because of cravings, out-of-control appetites or eating habits, or a lack the motivation to lose weight. Weight loss hypnosis is the solution for solving these problems and providing the motivation to stick to a diet program like the Zone diet program.

Hypnotherapy is routinely used in combination with dieting because it does many things to increase the effectiveness and success rate of weight loss programs. One thing that hypnosis programs do is help promote positive thinking, especially to counter negative thoughts. Hypnotherapy is a powerful stress reducing tool as well, helping us cope with our stressful emotions and relieve tension. As a stress reducing tool, it calms the mind, helps you develop strategies to cope with stress, and increases your self-confidence to motivate you to lose weight.

Weight loss hypnosis can also be used to treat the mental obstacles that keep people from losing weight. Take for instance people who cannot regulate their food cravings and appetite because they struggle with "emotional eating." People who experience emotional eating compulsively consume food in response to their feelings, such as when they are bored or sad. Hypnosis can be used to break the associations in our unconscious minds between eating and our feelings. This way, people do not have to struggle with overeating and are able to stay committed to complex weight loss programs such as the Zone diet.

Motivational weight loss CDs have become a popular and successful technique to use with diet programs because motivation is essential to success for most dieters. A good hypnosis CD program works by tapping into the power of the unconscious mind to naturally focus our thoughts on maintaining a healthy lifestyle. These programs help dieters remember their reasons for wanting to diet and exercise so dieters automatically feel motivated to stick with their weight loss program.

A hypnosis CD program is an effective motivational tool that will help you "stay in the zone," exercise, and experience natural appetite suppression. Through hypnosis, we can think positively and focus on improving our health.
