UNCOVER the Signs Showing that You Might Have Yeast Infection

By: Linda Allen

Many people believe that they might have a yeast infection, also known as candidiasis, and try to solve the problem all by themselves using over the counter medication. But in truth yeast infection can be easily confused with other medical ailments. So what should you look for as signs that you could have yeast infection? It's a difficult question. Medical studies show that much of the diagnoses of this medical problem that are made actually mistake symptoms of infection by bacteria (such as discharge from the vagina) as an indication of the yeast infection. They then go on to confuse skin infection with Candida which can be mixed up with bacterial intertrigo and flexural psoriasis simply because these problems display similar signs of lesions and rashes.

The real importance of getting this right is that you must avoid worsening your medical condition by ignoring the real hidden cause. Acquiring at least basic information and knowledge about what candidiasis is, where it comes from and what it does to you is necessary if you want to prevent wrong diagnoses and errors in treatment.

When the immune system and the beneficial microbes in the intestine combine to manage the candida microorganism, there is no danger to your body. But when Candida gets out of control they can cause serious havoc to your body. There are several types of the Candida fungus which are responsible for yeast infections. Surprisingly, Candida is quite normally found in small amounts anyway in the body where it lives in places like the folds of the skin, the vagina, rectum, the gut and so on. The things that may trigger a yeast infection are:

1. Disappearance of beneficial microbes killed off by use of antibiotics or by mental stress.

2. A dysfunctional immune system (this system must be strong in order to handle Candida correctly).

3. Bad diet, incorrect nutrition and intake of foods that Candida feeds on to over grow inside your body.

When overgrowth occurs, Candida can move all around your body. Signs of yeast infection can therefore be displayed on both a local and a systemic level. This happens because Candida develops a structure like the root that attaches into the intestinal tissues and gets into the blood circulation.

To avoid the mixing up these signs with a number of other problems including skin and bacterial infections, you need to know how to make a first diagnosis of candidiasis. This means recognizing systemic signs also which include fatigue, vision that blurs, abnormal desire for sugar and white flour, food allergies, problems with your sinus and so on. Local signs may also be in evidence such as burning sensations and itching, discharge from the penis and the vagina and other bacterial style infections.

To understand if your condition is severe you can do a simple test in your own home. It will take one hour and just a quick look at the test results every fifteen minutes. You need to spit saliva into a glass of water when you get up in the morning before you do anything else. If your saliva develops legs or strings running down inside the water you may have a candida yeast infection. If your saliva sinks to the bottom your condition may be even more serious.

If this is the diagnosis, candidiasis must be treated as quickly as possible and in an effective manner to stop potential health difficulties. Left neglected, this condition can often degenerate into serious systemic infection - this can mean a weakening, painful and threatening medical state that may even be fatal.
