What to Look For When Purchasing Used Fitness Equipment

By: Vladimir Korozova

A lot of people consider purchasing fitness equipment for their home in order to stay in shape. But, if you have considered buying any fitness equipment and have priced an exercise bike, treadmill or elliptical then you are aware that they can be very expensive.

If this sounds like you then you should consider purchasing a used exercise machine. You will be able to get a high quality piece of equipment for a fraction of the price. If you have some knowledge about the equipment that you want then you will be able to walk into a store and identify what is a good purchase and what will not be.

There are a couple of places to buy used fitness equipment. Advertisements placed by individuals through classified ads or even eBay. These people have already decided to sell their equipment because the novelty has worn off and so instead of it sitting around at home they have considered getting a little money for it. Another reason for them selling would be so they can upgrade to a different or newer model. Either way, you really should see the equipment from an individual seller prior to making a commitment to buy.

If you found the advertisement in the newspaper then you are easily able to go to he person's house to look at it and try it out. If you go to look at the equipment, watch out for a few things. First, make sure that it has all of the parts. In addition, be sure that there is no rust or worn out spots. Turn on the machine and use it for five or ten minutes to make sure that it runs properly.

Be aware that many pieces of equipment don't have warranties and that replacement parts for older brands and models can be difficult to find. Be sure that you know where the original owner bought the equipment from so if you ever have problems you can contact the store directly.

One of the disadvantages of buying used fitness equipment online is that you cannot go and test it before making your purchase. However, if you are buying it on eBay, there is a rating system for all sellers and you can view comments from other buyers to see if they have been happy with their purchases. Look at the larger sized picture to determine the quality of the used fitness equipment.

Remanufactured and refurbished fitness equipment from gyms is also another option when looking to buy used fitness equipment. It is a good option because the only reason the gyms are willing to sell is because the lease is up on the machine and they want to update their equipment on a regular basis. The used fitness equipment can be sold for a lot less than a new unit because the manufacturer restores the equipment and its parts, will test the machine to make sure everything is operating properly and then give it a fresh coat of paint.

Wherever you decide to purchase your used fitness equipment you must always research the person or place and the quality of the equipment that is for sale.
