Why What We Eat Could Be Leading To Our Nations Downfall

The fate of a Nation and it's people depends on how it is fed" This infamous remark was said by the meditative Frenchman Brillat Savarin after Napoleon Bonapart's defeat at the battle of Waterloo.

He had seen the once powerful French empire slowly slip away from the over weight obese Napoleon. Years before Napoleon had been the handsome hero of his people, full of sex appeal and with an athletic body the envy of men and the desire of women. But over the years he had become a huge jowly over weight man. He was no longer held in any esteem , he lost his authority and eventually literally ate himself out of power.

Inspite of Napoleon's eventual attrition he recognised his down fall was down to his obesive eating. In fact he wrote a famous essay entitled Obesity in which he tried to educate his fellow man of the day on the dangers of obesity and how it can destroy lives, as it had his and has continued to do so for many years since.

Napoleon tried like his predessors and those that followed after him to inform people that the best way to eat was just enough to maintain a healthy body. But his attempts like those that have followed him and continue to do so today fall too often on deaf ears as the increasingly alarming levels of obesity worldwide demonstrate.

Do people really want to be fat, I doubt it very much, no one would actually want to be fat surely?

Why would you want to be fat? Isn't it the fat kids who are the butt of everyones jokes at school and have you noticed that the only fat people who get roles in movies get fun made out of them? How many famous fat people do you know ...not many i'm guessing.

Is their something compelling us to sit down at our dinner tables to eat foods prepared in a multitude of different ways knowing it will make us fatter. It not that difficult really we just love to eat and enjoy food. But don't we eat to survive?

But do you know something the worse part is the food we love eating most is the food which provides us the least benefit and causes us the most harm.How many people say but I only have the odd burger now and again, or I only eat the odd plate of fries or a pizza when I get home late.

It's some sort of strange world we live in when we condem those who choose to smoke. We condem that they put a strain on our health resources and are totally selfish caring only about their own welfare. We even pass laws to prevent these people doing themselves too much harm. But when food becomes involved we just shrug and ignore the problem.

Wev'e all seen people pushing food desperately in to their mouths as they walk down the street almost as if they would starve before they got home there lives depending on it.

Fact it they probably will but not in the way they'd be thinking...

I bet you are shocked by my blunt and possibly over the top way of talking about obesity,why on earth would you read the ramblings of such an food extremist.It's simple really...

Does the softly softly approach work for you? Of course it doesn't if it had you wouldn't be reading this article about obesity in the first place. Does all that junk you are being fed by the media make you want to jump in to Lycra and start exercising. No way you'd no more walk over broken glass but the strange thing is you haven't always been fat have you. When you were born you were pretty much the same as everyone else give or take a few pounds.But some how while you were sleeping you got to be fat and overweight what happend?

It's not quite as simple as what you eat or even what you don't eat. It's important but not everything. It about the way you choose to look, how that makes you feel, the methods you use to prepare food , what you eat, how you decide to dress and the type and method of exercise you take and dozens more factors.

It's not as simple as being slim some slim people who live on a diet of salads and slim shakes still have a terrible self image so slip back at the first sign of adversity. It's far more than that it's about understanding your inner self as well as your outer body it's about loving yourself , it's about great sex, it's about your health and well being and most importantly it's about you.
